Isolated plastic surgery of the wings and the tip of the nose is rarely performed. As a rule, it is included in the complex of work on rhinoplasty. In some cases, however, improved fenders are missing, which in a moment can change the whole picture for the better.
Parameters of the beautiful ala
The wings of the nose are paired, symmetrically spaced cartilages that form the nostrils.
The main parameters of harmoniously shaped nostrils are symmetry and proportionality. Most often, when talking about the aesthetics of the olfactory organ, people mean a flat back, a clean tip, and a moderate projection (length) of the nose. The nostrils attract less attention due to the fact that they occupy a small area.
Aesthetic wing configuration is very important! I can assume that it is not always possible for a lay person in the field of facial aesthetics to see the "ugliness" of the nose. At first glance, everything is not bad, but one element is knocked out of a well-cut design. Ugly wingsare a blow that can destroy any harmony conceived by nature.
They must be symmetrical and proportional to the entire external part of the respiratory organ!

When do you need an operation?
Nasal alar correction can either be an isolated operation, that is, it can only be performed on paired cartilage, or it can be part of a complex to correct the nose and septal rhinoseptoplasty.
Let's highlight the 3 most common wing defects that can be surgically corrected:
- Nostrils and wings too wide.
- Unbalanced wings. We all have asymmetries, of course. It's okay. However, in some cases, dissonance cannot be hidden. Therefore, the wings of the nose, which differ noticeably in size or location (above or below), can be entrusted to a plastic surgeon.
- Fleshy, thick nostrils. The cause can be thickened skin or excess cartilage tissue.
- Unaesthetic shape.
With injections of fillers, the listed defects of the nostrils cannot be corrected!
How difficult is this operation
Of course, if we compare the correction of the wings with the plastic of all parts of the outer nose, the first case is easier for the surgeon to perform.
"Simplicity" does not mean that this can be done without great effort and without sufficient experience. On the contrary, the reduction of the ala of the nostrils, the formation of a new configuration requires a careful approach, planned for his actions by a specialist.
I repeat: the wings are a small area that requires jewelry precision to work.
What type of anesthesia is used?
The subject of anesthesia during plastic surgery is of great concern to patients. I would divide the audience into two camps: those who oppose general anesthesia and try to avoid it by all means, and those who try to survive the intervention in a state of oblivion and are happy to plunge into drug sleep.
Notice!
- When we perform an operation in combination with a complex nose job, the anesthesia is without a doubt general.
- If we are only correcting cartilage, intravenous sedation under local anesthesia can be used.
Prepare for the operation
The amount of preoperative preparation depends on the type of procedure. For nose correction under general anesthesia, we need extensive examinations.
Analyzes that must be passed
- Clinical blood test;
- Biochemical blood test (total protein, urea, creatinine, bilirubirn (total), ALT, ASAT, glucose, potassium, sodium);
- Coagulogram (INR, prothrombin, bleeding time, clotting time);
- Blood test for RW (syphilis), HIV;
- Hbc;
- Antigen + anti-HCV (hepatitis B, C);
- Blood group, Rh factor;
- General urinalysis;
- EKG (electrocardiogram) with interpretation;
- Computed tomography of the nose.
Isolated plastic surgery of the nostrils requires a few fewer tests.
On the day of the operation
The patient comes to the clinic with an empty stomach (with complex rhinoplasty) or after a light morning (nose operation under intravenous sedation).
After the usual organizational measures for signing the contract, payment, etc. , consultations with specialists follow. It is mandatory to collect an anamnesis by an anesthetist and, of course, another meeting with the operating surgeon.
After the operation for complex correction of the nose under general anesthesia, the patient is taken to the wake-up station, where his condition is carefully monitored.
After sewing the wings, the patient goes home after a few hours.
How is the rehabilitation going?
Rehabilitation after rhinoseptoplasty and plastic surgery of the nostrils differs significantly.
If you've just adjusted the wings, you're a happy person who doesn't need complex structures on the face (for example, a splint). The doctor seals the correction area with special strips. This has practically no impact on your quality of life and your wellbeing.
When you get home, you can go back to your normal lifestyle with minimal adjustments.
Stitches after wing plastic
The sutures are outside when reducing the nostrils. After 6-7 days, the doctor removes the stitches. Traces of interference are visible for a while. But after a few months, if you care for them properly, you will forget them.
Rules for scar treatment:
- After removing the stitches, a bandage / plaster is placed on the wound if necessary, which can be removed after a day. In this case, it is usually not necessary to cover the wound with a bandage or plaster.
- To ensure the openings are closed, do not wet the wound on the day the stitches are removed.
- The healing wound will remain sensitive for a few more weeks - protect the wound area from external damage and avoid rubbing it with tight clothing. You can cover the wound with a bandage / plaster if you wish.
Alar plastic surgery, price
The cost of alar plastic surgery depends on the type of aesthetic defect to be corrected, the complexity and scope of the procedure ahead. For verification purposes, in the table we indicate the approximate cost of various types of surgical interventions. You can only find out the final cost of the service after a personal consultation.
